Neck Pain - Your Natural Solution
Imagine a 12 to 14 lb. bowling ball sitting on top of a Slinky. That’s the equivalent of what you neck must support every day.
Sure, there’s a lot of flexibility in your neck but not a whole lot of stability. It’s your muscles that must work to provide the proper support so that your head doesn’t hit your computer keyboard or lean forward too close to the steering wheel on your commute or other car trips. Poor posture and the resulting muscle fatigue can just make the problem worse.
Your neck and shoulders work hard every day. Your neck provides support for your skull and literally carries your world on itself. Even the smallest misalignments of your neck bones can cause chronic problems like shoulder pain, arm pain and headaches. So, clearly, your cervical spine (neck) is extremely important to your overall health.
Your Neck Pain and How We Can Help
Our office evaluates and cares for both major and minor neck pain. You may be experiencing stiffness, soreness or loss of range of motion. We would consider that to be minor neck pain. However, if your symptoms continue on for more than a couple of days, such as after a sports, work, or auto accident, or recur for no apparent reason, we consider you to have a major neck problem. We have experience with both types of neck pain, most often with great results!
How Your Body Reacts
There are so many factors involved in your body’s reaction to stress. Often, particularly in our fast-paced work environment here in the Washington, DC area, stress manifests itself in neck pain and tension headaches. There are structural, chemical, electromagnetic, nutritional, even emotional stress responses that your body may make when confronted by outside forces. Emotional stress can be a significant factor. We have probably all encountered somebody whom we’ve referred to as a “pain in the neck” but it doesn’t have to be this way. Such negative emotions as fear, anger, worry, frustration, and jealousy can help to cause tense neck muscles that over time may lead to muscle knots (trigger points) and chronic neck pain. These emotional triggers can create muscle tension even though we may not be conscious of the cause. Although over-the-counter pain relievers, like ibuprofen, Advil or aspirin, might take edge of the pain, they really don’t address the underlying cause of your problem! Spinal misalignments, pinching or choking spinal nerves are often the cause of your neck pain.
